Another beginning

Hello friends, and welcome to my new website. I had hoped to write something brilliant for the first blog post, but have been so busy collecting and organizing my content it just didn’t happen. Instead you get this mealy-mouth jive, after yet another all-nighter scanning old film, hunting for elusive JPGs on my hard drives and pulling my hair out trying to bring some coherence to the body of work I’ve generated over the years.

Two weeks ago I knew exactly zero about building a website but thanks to WordPress and a theme from Photocrati all this actually happened without any outside help. If galleries load a little slowly or anything seems rough chalk it up to inexperience – I’ll try to tighten it up as I have time.

Meanwhile enjoy, and you web designers out there don’t be too hard on me. I’m a photographer, not a computer geek. I have everything yet to learn about search engine optimization and making the web work for me, but all that will have to wait until this place gets cleaned up and I catch up on some much-needed sleep. It looks like file cabinet exploded in here.

Over and out – the sun’s coming up already.

  1. Hi Dennis. Much impressed with your website. You have been busy indeed. I had a couple of thoughts for you – if you are interested in selling your work, perhaps a page with prices/sizes/medium. Also, what about a coffee table book format – particularly popular at the holidays. Just came back from Rutland, Vermont – discovered a local artist there via a restaurant that had much of his work on display. He has a blog that is very active with comments from folks who had discovered him the same way. Mucho talent, Dennis. Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Thanks for the kind remarks, Teri! Sorry I’ve been too busy to think much about the blog or respond sooner. I’ve had ideas for several coffee table books over the years and made several queries to publishers. Unfortunately they are notoriously expensive to publish and in this economy even publishers who normally do such books are declining them. The last query I made was less than a year ago, and that’s what I was told. The idea’s not dead, just on hold for the time being.
